Course Description

Our interactive training program will enable you to implement the evidence-based model of bibliotherapy in your practice. Bibliotherapy can work as a stand-alone activity or as an activity that supports other therapeutic modalities. Bibliotherapy is: • Fun to learn • Innovative • Versatile • Easy to implement • Proven to work Learning how to implement bibliotherapy into your service will help you offer something unique and uplifting that has great outcomes for your clients, including: • Improved mental health • More confidence • Reduced loneliness/social isolation • A way to talk about issues that are difficult to approach traditionally What will you learn? We teach the techniques and skills needed to deliver Bibliotherapy as a service to your clients. The training involves: • Selecting and using materials • How to read engagingly and inclusively • How to prepare a text • Exploring subjects through a text • Managing dynamics (for group sessions) Who should attend our training? Anyone can attend who is looking for a novel way to engage their clients. An interest in literature and awareness of its therapeutic value is a good start, but not essential. When and where will the course run? The course begins on Sunday 25th August will run for 4 weekly sessions until Sunday 15th September. All sessions will be from 10am - 2pm. Sessions will be conducted online via Zoom so can be accessed from any location. Who is this course facilitated by? This course will be facilitated by Christopher Smith, Founder and CEO of Shared Reading NSW. With 12 years experience and having personally facilitated hundreds of Shared Reading groups, Christopher is a leading figure in the Shared Reading movement in Australia. Christopher trained with The Reader Organisation in the UK in 2011 and founded Shared Reading NSW in 2014 to grow the movement and to train others in the framework of Shared Reading.
